adesso develops new software for TÜV Rheinland that will be used by almost 2,000 employees for mobile and fixed-location services
Project volume in the low single-digit millions
adesso AG was awarded a contract from TÜV Rheinland to develop a new software system for its vehicle inspection business. In the future, all TÜV Rheinland inspection locations and mobile service units will use the new software solution to be developed by adesso when they carry out the regular vehicle inspections required by German law. The system will use the latest technology in order to meet TÜV Rheinland's technical requirements and provide the flexibility required for rapid adaptation. The existing system, which has developed over a number of years, is being replaced because the underlying technology is outdated. The new system will offer an optimised user experience, greater reliability and improved efficiency, along with clearly defined processes. The software will be rolled out at the inspection locations from 2016.
TÜV Rheinland chose Microsoft .NET as the underlying platform for the implementation of the production system - not least because of the opportunity to integrate Visual Studio, the Team Foundation Server and BizTalk as platforms. The commercial functions of the existing SAP system will be integrated in the new solution. The core applications include the creation of documents such as reports and inspection reports, confirmation of official data in the fields of fixed-location and mobile vehicle inspection, as well as technical services. The services provided can also be invoiced directly using the integrated billing software. That means the system will offer end-to-end support for the entire vehicle inspection process. In addition to creating a new system based on the latest technology, TÜV sees the project as an opportunity to evaluate and further optimise its existing processes. That is why workshops with all user groups were held before the development phase in order to assess the technical process requirements of the company's employees, and to allow the software to be developed with a focus on those requirements and practical applications. This process will be supported by agile development methods: Functional, usable updates will be created and delivered at extremely short intervals. The actual users will remain actively involved throughout the project and contribute their experience to the software development process. Regular monitoring of changes to technical requirements and expectations will ensure that the software is well received. adesso's expertise and experience in agile development were an important factor in the tender process, and contributed to TÜV's decision to award the company the contract.
With approximately 19,300 employees and annual turnover of EUR 1.73 billion, TÜV Rheinland is a leading international provider of certifications. The company has subsidiaries in 66 countries and generates more than half of its revenue in Germany.
