adesso Schweiz AG intensifies cooperation with the Institute for Computer Science of the Zurich University

Exchanfe between IT research and economy is to enhance knowledge transfer

Zurich/Dortmund, 01 July 2008 – The Institute for Computer Science at of the University of Zurich ans the adesso Switzerland AG will closely collaborate in questions of IT research and services in future. Professor Harald C. Gall, Head of the Faculty of Software Engineering at the UZH, and Daniel Walther, director of adesso Switzerland, arranged this cooperation. The company will primarily benefit from a rapid transfer of new trends and results in research and science. The university benefits from the numerous experiences in implementing defined projects beyond laboratory conditions. Moreover, the cooperation partners plan to conjointly realize technologically challenging and innovative projects.

The collaboration with adesso Switzerland offers students of computer science concrete advantages: The company provides traineeships and offers topics as well as mentoring for diploma theses; adesso instructors use lectures to convey their experiences in projects and enhance the studies’ practical orientation by that. In addition to the adesso experts, a speaker of a customer company reported his experiences in collaborating with IT service providers in a first lecture. The first traineeships are currently being filled and first themes for diploma theses are sifted. “We as a company benefit from the fresh input of the students and can support them simultaneously by giving them opportunities to apply their knowledge in exercise,” comments Daniel Walther, director of adesso Switzerland.

With the cooperation, adesso benefits from an additional source to keep company and employees up to date in ongoing IT developments. The university with its well-established research institution identifies relevant IT trends right in time. Based on these information obtained, adesso can derive special job trainings for its employees and keep up its leadership in technology. For these purposes, adesso is going to participate in the university’s research projects and provides resources. Professor Gall states: “With the cooperation we receive the immediate response of which trends in informatics are already relevant and realizable in economy. The expertise of the adesso engineers helps us to develop innovative solutions for IT problems.”

Along with the exchange of knowledge, university and company will conjointly organize events on a regular base. These events will deal with theoretical challenges in informatics and are open to the technical public. Precise topics will be software architectures, software evolution, re-engineering and collaborative software engineering.

The close collaboration with academic institutions is an integral part of the methods utilized in the adesso group: The German parent company cooperates amongst others with the Chair of Applied Telematics / e- business of the University of Leipzig, the Faculty of Computer Science at the Technical University Dortmund, the Faculty for Information- und Technical Management of the Ruhr-University Bochum, the Hasso-Plattner Institute for Software Technology in Potsdam, and the Professorship in Information Systems Engineering (ISE) at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe-University Frankfurt am Main.
